Sober dates, dirty selfies and other things I’ve learned

Strike a pose. For yourself. And maybe someone else.

Strike a pose. For yourself. And maybe someone else.

I’m thinking about changing the name of this blog to Things I’ve Learned So You Don’t Have To.

As you may have suspected, it’s been an eventful few weeks. There have been highs, there have been lows, there have been things I’ve done that I never thought I’d do. And there have been a lot of lessons learned.

Let’s start with sober first dates. I would like to reveal that they are not as scary as they may sound. Either are activity dates.  I’ve been to the art gallery and yoga, I’ve had coffee in the park at 10am and several mid-week lunches. All excellent date options.
My dating lesson for you: Mix it up. Think beyond ‘a few drinks after work on a Thursday’.

I’ve also stopped thinking about the H word whenever I meet someone. Case in point: Dirty Yoga Man. There is a strong chance that a bloke who is universally known as Dirty Yoga Man is probably not going to be my husband but you know what…
My dating lesson for you: …they don’t all have to be your husband. And actually it’s more fun if you don’t think that every single man you date could be.

Dirty Yoga Man and I met on Tinder, affirming the dating app’s well-founded ever-so-slightly-dodgy reputation.
My dating lesson for you: Know what you’re getting into when you’re on Tinder. I still maintain you can find a relationship on there but if you just find yourself a hot yoga guy, then roll with it…

…Even if you find yourself exchanging dirty text messages on a school night.
My dating lesson for you: #1: It is extremely difficult to take a hot-yet-slightly-dirty selfie. Start practising now.
My dating lesson for you:
#2: It’s probably prudent to unsynch your mobile phone with your work iPad if you’re going to indulge in this sort of behaviour. Just saying.

So take these lessons and go forth and date, my friends.

(And let me know how you go with the selfie.)
